Bro Jamala, I assume your connection is likes this Phone line -> Modem -> Wireless Router I also assume the Modem and Wireless Router has DHCP functionality and is enabled (ability to lease a range of IP address to connected device) If I were you, I will first determine what IP address range leased by the modem DHCP. I will run IPconfig command line. From the command line you should be able to read your IP address (e.g 192.168.0.X subnet mask 255.255.255.0) Then I will check and ensure the router’s DHCP do not use the same range of IP address leased to connected device. You need to logon to the router’s admin console and configure the DHCP lease out any IP address other than 192.168.0.X to 192.168.1.X or 192.168.2.X. Don’t forget to configure the router to get its IP assigned from the modem. Once the above steps complete, you should be able to connect to internet. The correct setup will become Phone line -> Modem (192.168.0.X) -> Wireless Router (192.168.1.X) -> Wireless device etc. Note: I don’t recommend to disable DHCP either on Modem or Wireless router for ease of troubleshooting later. For your desktop PC, make sure it obtain the IP address automatically instead of manually set. |

Now run Ipconfig /all on both the Laptop and Desktop computer. Both should share the same network configuration:- C:\>ipconfig /all Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : 802.11b Wireless LAN CardBus (Mini- PCI NIC DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.198 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.XXX DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.XXX DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.XXX Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 30 April 2008 22:34:58 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 01 May 2008 22:34:58 If they are different especially on Default Gateway, DHCP and DNS server details then I believe your desktop PC network perperties was manually configured. Set the desktop to obtain these settings automatically. Try to ping each other as well as the Gateway (e.g. Ping 192.168.1.XXX) |

Bro Jamala, I think the IP range of the router is different from your PC. Try this in your PC. Right click "MyNetwork Place" Click "Properties" Right click "Local Area Connection" Click "Properties" Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" Click the "Properties" button Choose to use the "Obtain an IP address automatically" option Click OK |

recently my streamyx modem (Riger DB102) failed to auto dial-up. It just suddently happened during the last two days. Ends up i have to manually dial up from the pc, or set my wireless router to automatically dial for me. I connected into the modem, the setting seems to be normal. Someone from Streamyx help desk connected in and checked already, it's still like that. Anyone had this kind of experience before? |
