Bro, I have a small pond in my compound where I keep about 20 koi. I designed the pond with very proper filteration system, both mechanical and biological filtration, also incorporating UV light, water features etc. But I dare not DIY the pond and so asked contractor to do. Even so, the waterproofing was not done properly and the first time we tried to fill up the pond, after many hours of running water, the pond still half full. That month my water bill increased by RM300. Now it is ok and has been in use for 3~4 years already.

If you want to DIY the pond, maybe better go for the prefab fiber glass pond, not the concrete pond.

bro mk888,
thanks for yr advice. i also don't know i can start do myself or not? :( cos my pound say big not big say small not small have to dig underground 4-5ft. fiber glass limitation is there unless u custom made. i don't wan regret after build have to extend it later due to over growding. how big is yr pound? any photo to share? water bill is a problem.. i plan to use underground water also.

Sorry cannot give much details now.... will do so later.... maybe with some photos... have to ask my son to attach photos... I don't know how to do it myself... so have to do it at home...later. Sorry again.

Hi Bro, my pond size is about 18' long, 3' wide and average about 3' deep. I have taken some digital photos but don't know how to attach to post. Can anyone teach me step by step how to do this??? Have to be step by step because I am not IT savvy.

Meanwhile, I recommend you buy this book "Interpet - Bumper Guide to Garden Ponds" compiled by Dick Mills. You can get it from MPH at about RM48.80 and you can be expert after reading it.

Hi bro, actually I designed the whole thing i.e. shape of pond c/w water features, the filtering system for better water management and the landscaping surrounding the pond etc. But I am too old to dig and carry, so I asked contractor to build accordingly. Anyway, I enjoy only the design part. The hard DIY part, I think I better to leave it younger people like you all to enjoy la......

Really well planned design and nice. Good job bro Mk....

I wish i had the budget to do the same last time, but i only got (slightly) hooked to keeping fish the last 3 years, so if i were to do the same, I would have to unearth all my floor tiling.... :D

Maybe due to the colour of sand. Normall river sand abit yellowish compare to mining sand.

Thanks Sifu TehSPin,

About pebble wash,

1. It's plainly cement with stone? Without sands at all?

2. Can I add a layer of this pebble wash (about 1-1.5" thick) on top of about 10 years old concrete floor? Will it crack easily after few months since my Avanza park on it?
