I'm planning to have some little projects for my house such as build up a wall or some wooden work. Wondering that any Home renovation expect out there could advise the following.
1. What is the mixture of cement to stack up bricks? 2. What is the mixture of cement to paste on wall surface? 3. How to apply those little yellowish, brown, grey color small stone that are very common in some shopping centre. I'm thinking to apply that on the floor of car porch.
Many thanks ;)

Work is different from interest usually. Those who work with their interest are lucky one!
buble wash? sounds interesting. I though they just pour those stone on top of the about to dry cement to form the top layer? If mix it with cement and the floor are about 3 inches thick then we need a lot of stone!
Do you know what they spray on top surface to make those stone shinning?
cement 1/3 and sands 2/3? Suitable for flooring and stacking bricks? I though wall surface mixture is slightly different?
Thanks bro!

I do a lot of DIY staff at home but the one thing I dare not touch is bricks laying and floor concreting related works. Not only you need the necessary knowledge and skill, if you fail, you have plenty of headache to un-do. At the end, it will cost even more to re-do.
Just my 2 cents thought.

Thanks for sharing. If the wall does not play an important role such as supporting the roof then it's fine. I'm aiming for a 2-3 feets wall with some wooden fender as the divider with neighourhood only. Or may be a wall under the staircase to cover it for storage purpose.
The small stone can be applied for gardening such as walk path too. Car porch is still under consideration.

If you intend to have a 3" layer.....normall use 2" as the base concrete. Then 1" for the bubble wash. You must mix the small stone and sand togther to get an even effect. because if you lay the stone after the screed...it will come out later.
The shining part is paint with Shellac....... ;) :D

1. For brickwork 1 part cement 3 part sand. 2. For wall plaster 1 part cement 6 part sand - need skill <_< 3. To do pebble wash mix cement and stone then plaster to wall or floor. Let it harden abit then brush out some cement to expose the stone. Clean the surface with sponge.

Thanks a lot Sifu TehSPin!
Very informative. I understand that it's not easy and need skill for all this job. Don't worry, I'm not going to build a high wall, start with 2-3 feets fender first, may be ;) Thanks! Ever done some similar job but those are more for fun. That's why I need professional advice for the mixture and guideline here ;)
btw, how come I saw some of the wall plaster mixture with a bit yellowish in color? What do they mix to make it look different from normal cement with sands mixture? Any reason for that ? cut cost?

Maybe due to the colour of sand. Normall river sand abit yellowish compare to mining sand.

Ask for waterproofing compound (water proof cement + bonding agent) from hardware shop. Look for brush on type which is easier to apply. Just follow the instruction & enjoy ur DIY. :D

Bro, I have a small pond in my compound where I keep about 20 koi. I designed the pond with very proper filteration system, both mechanical and biological filtration, also incorporating UV light, water features etc. But I dare not DIY the pond and so asked contractor to do. Even so, the waterproofing was not done properly and the first time we tried to fill up the pond, after many hours of running water, the pond still half full. That month my water bill increased by RM300. Now it is ok and has been in use for 3~4 years already.
If you want to DIY the pond, maybe better go for the prefab fiber glass pond, not the concrete pond.

bro mk888, thanks for yr advice. i also don't know i can start do myself or not? :( cos my pond say big not big say small not small have to dig underground 4-5ft. fiber glass limitation is there unless u custom made. i don't wan regret after build have to extend it later due to over growding. how big is yr pound? any photo to share? water bill is a problem.. i plan to use underground water also.

:( cos my pound say big not big say small not small have to dig underground 4-5ft. fiber glass limitation is there unless u custom made. i don't wan regret after build have to extend it later due to over growding. how big is yr pound? any photo to share? water bill is a problem.. i plan to use underground water also.
4-5 feet better ask ppl to do. But try to get more quotation to compare & i guess the different will be alot!! <_<
